Today while doing my grocery shopping an older woman stopped me in the produce section of the store to compliment me on my red hair. Though not the first time this has happened, it was a very welcomed compliment just the same. The woman told me that I have lovely red hair and all the girls must love it. I replied that some of them do and thank you very much for the compliment. We chatted for a short period longer and then we both parted ways to continue on with our grocery shopping.
This whole exchange got me thinking. Why is it that the majority of the people who compliment me on my hair are older women? There must be a reason. Why don't woman my own age compliment me on my hair? There must be reason for that too. I by no means need the confidence that comes with compliments, but every now and again it would be nice to have a woman with five years of my age compliment me on my hair. Is that too much to ask for? For most of my younger life I was made fun of for having red hair and freckles and now that I'm a man it would be nice to reap some of the benefits of having lovely red locks. So ladies, no need to fear this redheaded man with the curly red locks. If you would like to throw a compliment my way I would gladly embrace it.
