Some Humble New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of year again where we all reflect upon the past and prospect for the future. Maybe your year was fabulous and full of progress and gains, maybe your year was hard and frustrating. Either way, the chapter of 2011 is now closed, and we can all look forward to the coming chapter of 2012.

I've never been one to make New Year's resolutions, I mostly find them impulsive and fleeting. However, in the past I have made some, a few of them have stuck (quitting smoking and start running), many of them have been long lost and forgotten.

Over the years, I have found the best resolutions are often the humble ones, simple things like read more or smile more often. Those lifestyle changing resolutions like quitting smoking or losing weight often become cumbersome and difficult to fulfill, and usually by February they are already forgotten.

A friend of mine posted this on his Facebook wall the other day and it really spoke to me. It's Woody Guthrie's New Year's resolutions from 1942. Guthrie's resolutions made me reflect, and reaffirmed for me that humble and simple is a good way to live a life.

Woody Guthrie's New Years Rulin's from 1942.
Whatever your New Year's resolutions maybe for 2012, may they stick and be a source of inspiration and pride for you.

Happy New Year from MQWrites.
