Musical Poetry Using GarageBand


Objective
Students will search through books for a poem or very short story.  The students will then use Garage Band to record themselves reciting that poem or story and then create music to accompany their recitation.  Students will also be required to write a paragraph (using MS Word) about why they choose that poem or story.
Prerequisites
Using Garage Band.
Presenting New Material
How do you read poetry?
Prosody: the patterns of rhythm and sound used in poetry, meter and rhyme scheme.
Pay attention to punctuation.
Period = full stop
Comma = slight pause
Semi-colon = medium pause
Ellipse = long pause
Read a poem clearly and enunciate your words.  You don’t have to read the poem as fast as possible.  Pay attention to the road signs (punctuation marks).

Independent Practice
This assignment can be done two ways.  Record yourself reading the poem and then make the music or make your music and record your poem according to the music.
